FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group will invest more than €10 billion in France over the next five years, Chief Executive François Provost said on October 3. The spending will focus on electric vehicles and more affordable cars. Renault produced about 500,000 vehicles in France in 2025. It expects domestic output to rise by at least 25% in 2026. Provost said the investment depends on stable social and political conditions in France. The commitment extends the automaker’s shift toward electric manufacturing at its French plants.

Renault has invested €13 billion in France since 2021 to reshape its sites and electric vehicle operations. In July, the company said it had passed one million electric vehicles designed and produced in France since 2010. About 600,000 came from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 people in the country. The company says its French operations support about 35,000 indirect jobs across the supplier network.

The French manufacturing network includes assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly and Sandouville. Mechanical and industrial sites in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans and Flins support electric production. Renault says every French site contributes to its electric transition. Douai produces the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge builds the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. The group also makes electric light commercial vehicles in Maubeuge, Sandouville and Batilly.

French EV demand reaches record share

Electric cars accounted for 42% of new passenger car registrations in France in September, a record monthly share. France recorded 156,629 new passenger car registrations during the month, up about 12% from a year earlier. Battery electric vehicles represented about 31% of registrations through the first nine months of 2026. That compared with about 18% a year earlier. Hybrid vehicles held a 43% share in September, narrowly ahead of fully electric cars.

Renault’s expected production increase comes during a sharp rise in French electric vehicle registrations. In July, Renault said it planned a further €13 billion of investment in France under its futuREady plan, subject to appropriate conditions. The statement followed the €13 billion invested in the country since 2021. Provost’s latest comments put planned investment over the next five years at more than €10 billion. The latest figure covers Renault’s current five-year investment commitment in France.

    Renault expands French electric manufacturing

At ElectriCity, Douai and Maubeuge had produced 600,000 electric cars by July 2026. Renault 5 E-Tech electric production passed 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also produces the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault’s electric commercial lineup includes Kangoo, Trafic Van and Master E-Tech models built in France. The company said 700 permanent jobs were created at ElectriCity between 2022 and 2025. It had also added 550 temporary workers at Douai by July.

The investment plan extends a broader period of spending on Renault’s French manufacturing base. Since 2021, the company has directed €13 billion toward its domestic electric vehicle value chain. Its 2026 production outlook calls for at least 25% growth from the roughly 500,000 vehicles made in France last year. Provost said the latest commitment will focus on electric vehicles and more affordable models. The announcement comes as battery electric cars hold their highest monthly share yet in the French new-car market.
